Northwestern University
The Northwestern Chapter is in its beginning stages, but we have had
much success within the Northwestern community thus far! Currently,
the Northwestern Women's Soccer Team is working hard to raise $10,000
for new soccer fields in South Africa. The project was kicked off by
adopting the $10 Campaign. Additionally, the girls have set up soccer
clinics to not only raise money, but educate local youth about Africa
and Student Movement's projects.
This chapter is also working with a local elementary school to raise
awareness about South Africa and connect the students through pen-pal
letters. Two fourth grade classrooms at Oakton Elemenatry are eager
to learn about a culture and a continent that was so foreign to them.
The receptiveness of these school children has been inspiring because
of their growing interest and knowledge of Africa. The children have
even asked us if they could send sporting equipment and clothing to
those less fortunate.
As I stated before, we are in the beginning stages of creating this
chapter, but we appreciate your interest and look forward to expanding
the organization. If you have any questions or are interested in
working with us please feel free to contact either Lauren Johnston at Lola4soccer@gmail.com or Jeanette Lorme at jeanette.lorme@gmail.com.
